After the arrival of joint managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley in the summer of 2018, many people believed Chester were destined for promotion. However, despite periods of promise, the Blues ultimately finished 9th last season – one place and three points behind the Bucks.

However, the Blues are firmly in the promotion picture this time around. Propelled by the goals of dangerman Akwasi Asante (14 goals in all competitions), Chester have lost just three league games so far this season and rank among both the league’s best defences and best attacks.

And Chester have excelled in front of their own fans since Johnson and Morley arrived. The Blues have lost only once on their own patch this term, and it was a similar story last season too, when they lost only three times at the 1885 Arena.

Chester won 3-1 against Gavin Cowan’s men at the New Bucks Head earlier in the season and won this fixture last year 2-1, when the sides also met on the weekend before Christmas.

The Blues have three wins from five, including Tuesday night’s 2-1 Trophy replay win over Hednesford Town, while the Bucks will want to bounce back from back-to-back defeats.
