Match Review

AFC Telford came unstuck after struggling to cope with an impressive Chester side which saw them defeated 3-1, as Lewis Reilly scored his first goal for the Bucks.

The first goal came when Akwasi Asante got free inside the box and after a cross from the right  he glanced at it as he was able to direct the ball past Andy Wycherley. Despite the keeper trying to move it away from danger his attempt in the end backfired.

Asante scored his second when his initial effort hit the post at first, however after having    the ball come right back to him he fired home from close range on the follow up.

The striker then managed to get on the end of yet another delivery as the keeper spilled the ball towards Asante who applied the finishing touch.

Reilly came off the bench to head home a pinpoint cross from Chris Lait as the Bucks got off the mark, with the striker having room at the back post to bury the ball into the back of the net.

Brendon Daniels hit the bar late on with a free kick from just outside the box as he managed to hit the ball well, as his strike ended up cannoning off the crossbar before going out of play.

Chester almost made it 3-0 at the half hour mark, as they had several shots, but with the help of Wycherley and the home defence the Bucks did enough to escape conceding a third.

Jamie Morgan made a late lunge on Chris Lait after he went down from the challenge. The referee then showed the red card and Morgan was dismissed.

The Bucks before the goal almost scored as Darryl Knights saw his header from inside the box somehow clawed away by Russ Griffiths from the goal with Lait’s cross been on point once more.

Gavin Cowan`s was left frustrated at the fact that the Bucks have now conceded early on once again at home, which has ultimately meant that they have suffered three losses at New Bucks Head this year. He goes onto say that this is something that will be looked upon by the team as he admits that it isn`t a statistic that should be implied when playing at home.

“I`m Extremely disappointed, at home that`s three home games we have lost now, a poor record so we need to try to correct that.

“We keep doing it don`t we (on conceding early goals) and we can`t continue to do that and expect to win football matches so it`s something we have got to address.”

He then looks forward to the upcoming game on Tuesday against Shifnal Town by saying that he plans to name a strong side for the clash, and that it is a game that will be important for inserting better consistency levels between the players.

“The best team will be playing, we won`t be resting any players, it won`t be a chance for people to show what they can do, the best team that we feel will win the game will play in that game.”

“We need just bring a bit of consistency into our season and into our game, that`s what we’re working on at the moment.”

He then ended on the fact that the subs and change of shape was to do with trying something new, which did have a positive effect for the Bucks as young Reilly came off the bench to grab a goal. However the damage was already done at this time with the scoreline been firmly in the visitors favour.

“Just trying to galvanise a bit of energy, just trying to change it a little bit and trying to give the lads a glimmer of hope from somewhere because it wasn`t happening. We were just trying to make something happen.

“It didn`t look great (on the red card) and obviously i`m on the other side of the pitch so it`s hard to say but yeah the challenge didn`t look great.”
